Village Industry Plc is a textile company based in Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) that produces natural reusable cotton shoppers and fashion cotton and leather bags.
The cotton comes from cooperatives of small farmers located in the north western region of Ethiopia where cotton is still cultivated with traditional techniques. No pesticides, no herbicides, no fertilizers, no fossil fuels but only a lot of work.

The Afar collection is inspired by the nature, soul and energy of the African Continent. It includes bags, acessories and travel bags in canvas cotton fabric dyed with pigments extracted with soil and leather comes from zebu cows, the ancestor of all bovines still living out on the East African Highlands to help farmers engaged in traditional agriculture.
Coming from these animals that age in a natural environment it is of high density and strength with a texture showing the marks of a long and active life and, what really matters, it is a true by-product giving to the farmer additional income at the end of the animal’s life.
The almost wild animal texture is enhanced by the vegetable tanning and hand waxing process to make the leather last for a lifetime.
The bags are sturdy to resist harsh environments, light enough to be good nomadic tools and, what really matters, made of natural materials.
